Segregation and Discrimination

IN-DEPTH

SUMMARY

  • Segregation to Izzie and I is when people seperate themselves by race and religion or isolate themselves from a particular group of people.
  • Descrimination to Izzie and I is when one group treats another group purely based on prejudices against them.
  • The Jim Crow Laws were laws that referred to African Americans as "seperate but equal". However me and Izzie disagree with this because if they were really equal with the rest of us then they wouldnt have laws segregating them from normal things such as where to sit on the bus, being able to go to school with whites, ot where they can use the bathroom.
  • There were a couple attempts to get rid of these laws. Such as The Civil Rights Act of 1875 which African Americans were entitled to the same treatment in public accommodations, unfortunatly the act had little impact.
